It was the coolest week yet and the trout bite has improved dramatically with anglers reporting excellent action on lake 3 and good action on lake 2. Power bait
(especially pink, rainbow, and white lightning), lures, jigs and night crawlers all caught limits with most trout near or over 2 pounds. Hot spots included the grassy point, eastern and western shores of lake 3 as well as the eastern and northern shores of lake 2. Bass are still hitting senkos at the wall on lake 2 and the northern shore of lake 3 with bass up to 5 pounds. Catfish are hitting mackerel and shrimp on the eastern shore beach of lake 2.

Catches of the week: Tyler Burnett of Victorville caught a 4 lbs 11 ozs rainbow near the inlets of Lake 2 using a Triple Trout Swimbait. Santa Clarita angler, Randy Frank, reeled in a nice 4 lbs 3 ozs trout on White Lightning Power bait while fishing near the bridge on the northern shore of lake 2. Eddie Rodriguez of Hesperia scored a limit that included a 3 lbs 7 ozs rainbow. He used both silver and gold Kastmasters and fished the northern and eastern shores of lake 3. James Bon of Green Valley Lake caught a limit of 5 trout that weighed 14 lbs 14 ozs with the biggest rainbow weighing 3 lbs 2 ozs. He used Trout Teasers and fished the eastern logged shore of lake 3. David Ochoa of Hesperia caught a 10 lbs limit of trout using a Panther Martin on the northern shore of lake 3. Twelve year old, Kyle Raab used rainbow Power Bait to catch his 3 lbs 1 ozs trout on the western shore of lake 3. Victorville angler, Bobby Brant, caught a 3 lbs 5 ozs to finish his limit. He used Bubblegum Power Bait and fished the grassy point of lake 3. Tim Link of Upland limited and caught a 3 lbs 3 ozs rainbow on the eastern shore of lake 3 using White Lightning Power Bait. Dave Smith of Hesperia caught a 17 lbs 8 ozs and 15 lbs 5 ozs catfish on mackerel while fishing the eastern shore of lake 2. His friend, Bob Stone, who's visiting from South Caroline caught a 10 lbs 8 ozs, 11 lbs 4 ozs and 14 lbs 4 ozs catfish.
Dave Hagen of Phelan caught a limit that included a 3 lbs 11 ozs rainbow. He used night crawlers doused with attractant and fished the grassy point of lake 3. Adelanto angler, Benito Rojas, reeled in a 3 lbs 12ozs rainbow using a Trout Magnet on the grassy point.

The Lakes' Hatchery stocks trout every Friday year round.
This year the Lakes' hatchery is amping up the weekly trout stockings with bigger fish overall.

Prize Day at Jess Ranch Lakes

Saturday, Ocotber 25, 2008, will be " Prize Day" at Jess Ranch Lakes.

Limit fishing pass holders will compete for tackle, bait, free passes and lakes' signature items.

The Adult Division ( 13 years and older) will give prizes for the top five heaviest trout, the heaviest limit and the top two smallest trout.

The Child ( 12 years and younger) Division will give prizes for the top six heaviest trout and the top two smallest trout.

(Only one entry per angler per category.)

The competition ends at 2pm on October 25, 2008 and all prizes will be given at that time. The day will also include door prizes, a raffle and more. Regular admission fees and rules apply. No special fees are required to participate.
