THE MAZATLAN FISH REPORT - THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET
9-11-2008
Larry Edwards
Really good fishing for the larger dorado and just 8 miles off the
beach. According to Geronimo Cevallos, fishing 3 hours on a
"busman's holiday" with Carlos Berdigue, Sergio Romero and Arturo
Lizaraga, from an Aries Fleet super panga, leadered 18 dorado to
about 50 lbs. for a 3-hour fishing effort. He said the bite was
excellent along the current/scum line, formed by the rain runoff this
past couple of weeks. Overall fish counts for 8 fishing days
reflected 1 blue marlin, (220 lbs.) 1 striper, 10 sailfish, 16
yellowfin tuna, (to 80 lbs.) 1 toro, 10 bonitio and 42 dorado to 65 lbs.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy with some off and on rains, mostly in the PM & nights. Temps from 74 nights to 88 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Temps ranging from 82-83 degrees, clean waters at about 8-9 miles offshore, some westerly swell from Lowell and late day wind chop, current line at about 8 miles offshore.
Best Bait/Lure: Dorado are hot on the ballyhoo, rigged and slow trolled. Sailfish taking the rigged mullet. Tuna on larger lures and live bait on the drop-back.
Best Fishing area: Along the current break for the dorado, at the 22-25 mile mark for the tuna and billfish.
