Nothing like cruising toward reports of glory and arriving on scene just in time for it to fizzle. “All good things must come to an end”. Indeed they do. It wasn’t a catastrophe as we still managed to scratch, kick, and crawl our way to a decent result. But the bulk of the beautiful grade yellowfin that has been a go to down here for the past week was incognito.
Truth be told I was on pins and needles from the time we left the dock counting the days of incredible fishing down below knowing that an inevitable change was pending. Timing is everything. In this case, and every other as this is far from a first for us and every Captain out here, the only recourse is to work even harder, put the time in, and hope like holy hell the switch turns back on before our time in the zone expires. And we will.
In the big picture the bonus of the outing is glorious, flat calm weather to work in. For our vacationing anglers that is high on my list of goals. While I have no sway with Mother Nature I sure am appreciative of the generous consolation in light of the circumstances. Primo weather makes being out here on the high seas a pleasure in itself. More of the same in both the long and short term forecast promises to keep all options open to us as this voyage progresses. Photo today features Royal Star angler Mike Faherty and his forty pound class wahoo from a rather unique angle. Enjoy.
