Not the big bang up beginning we envisioned; not by a long way. After an instant wahoo on the troll one could easily interpret that omen as more good to come. It wasn’t. A long, slow afternoon followed. Not from a lack of fish, there are plenty around, everywhere we looked in fact, but a serious case of lock jaw thwarted production. Not one to ignore the obvious I took the hint and got out of Dodge. We’ll keep this on the back burner lest we succeed elsewhere and still have a taste for trophy hunting later on.

In fine weather we slide southeast on the hunt for kelps and pelagic species tomorrow. Photo today features Royal Star veteran Dan Ball with the one tuna landed yesterday afternoon - a dandy, 152 pound model.

On an admin note I want to mention that we have a few spots available on the annual “Rice Bowl” seven day voyage December 12th - 19th slated to fish the famed outside for this beautiful grade yellowfin tuna. From all indications there will be plenty more like these to come.

Also, for those seeking giant yellowfin on the lower banks this season as well as variety, the BlackWater 8/11 day voyage January 15th - 13th (returning San Diego the 16th) will target variety at Alijos Rocks and the Ridge conditions depending then finish on the famed Lower Banks between Bahia Magdelena and Los Cabos targeting giant yellowfin. The beauty of this voyage is the drop off in Cabo San Lucas and fly home option. Only a few hours from the fishing grounds this voyage features a wealth of fishing time in the 8 day time frame without the three day uphill ride home. If you have any questions or would like more details please call Tracy and/or Capt Brian Sims in the office at 619 224 4764
