Though we landed very little in the way of apex gamefish the day was far from a bust. Epic coastal scenery, beautiful weather and conditions, stellar fishing for Calico Bass, and an intimate introduction to the spectacular, rugged coast of Southern Baja that a relative few anglers have the opportunity to enjoy made the day special and appreciated by all. Always one of my favorite days of a successful long range voyage it is a sincere pleasure to share the local knowledge that we have acquired and introduce new anglers to the recreational fishing opportunities available in Baja beyond the deck of Royal Star.
Cruising the lost stretch of coast from daylight ’til dark we passed by the forbidden isles just after sundown setting ourselves up for a final day offshore in forecast superb conditions tomorrow. Right now it goes unsaid that some form of salvation is needed somewhere up above. Thus far it is just one of those slow starting seasons that is testing our moxy and mettle. But we are not Pilgrims. We are not new to the highs and lows, the peaks and valleys, that are an inescapable reality of fishing. There is plenty of ground to cover tomorrow and beyond. Sporting a fantastic load of RSW preserved fish in the tanks below we are in perfect position to venture a boom or bust prospecting mission. One for all, all for one - a philosophy that is necessary to all of our sanity, and survival, when the fishing slows down.

About half of the tuna we landed were in the release category (6-10#’s) but the other half made the grade easily with the standouts pushing 25#’s. We’ll take ‘em. After a loooooong stretch seeking biting tuna with nothing to show for it waves of brown backs plowing through the corner eating everything that hit the water was...... Read More
We scratched out a few exotics adding wahoo to the variety list in continuing sublime conditions. Even though the action fell off it was one of those days on the offshore ocean that called to the soul. Everyone was reminded of exactly why they came; of why they venture long range fishing voyages in general. Beautiful simply put, a setting unlike any other. Forging through a slow, slow morning with the afternoon came a condition change that mercifully ushered in...... Read More
