There was an excellent tuna bite going on close by to Cabo, until the tuna seiners moved in and left little else but the scales. According to Roberto Marquez, the count was 27 tuna boats, many with helicopters and miles of net, all competing for the same schools of fish, all of which are now gone and the fish are in their holds. Many of the boats had set within 2 miles of Cabo, which was thought to be illegal, but apparently not, when fishing for tuna. The overall counts for the Gaviota Fleet & Fish Cabo boats combined, reporting for 46 fishing days, reflected 30 stripers, (23 released) 18 dorado and 220 yellowfin tuna. Hi boat for the week was the "Fish Cabo I", reporting 7 stripers for 4 fishing days that included a 4- fish release day at the outer Gorda Bank area.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny, warm and clear, temps ranging from 64 nights to 92 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: A very distinct temp break, (7 degrees) running northwest to southeast from Cabo separates the Pacific from the Sea of Cortez and is typical for this time of year. From Cabo Harbor and out to the east, the temps increase rapidly to 75-76 degrees.

Best Fishing Area: While billfish were showing up all over to the east of Cabo, the better bite seemed to take place near the outer Gorda Bank area.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait, especially mackerel, were best if you could get them , with the caballitos working just so-so and best on the drop back to fish chasing the lures.
