The kind of day this magical desitination is so well known for; flat calm, breathtaking scenery, and steady picking all day long on 50 – 120 pound yellowfin tuna with a couple of handfuls of 25-30 yellowtail mixed in. All the go to cliches applied today. It wasn't wide open, but with this grade of fish it doesn't need to be. In fact it's almost better when it's not. In this setting angler's work harder for a bite and tend to savor and appreciate the results on a different level when success is achieved. And just like always when the fishing shifts into scratch mode time at the rail with a line in the water translates into success. That and the use of properly rigged and maintained equipment. Catching this paradise on the upswing we have no intentions of premature departure. We will certainly be working south but not before at least one more day targeting this beautiful grade yellowfin tuna. Photo today features master angler Tom Honaker who landed this dandy, 95 pound yellowfin right out of the gates. Working through a run of hard luck following Tom demonstrated real character sticking with it in spite of the fish god's cruelty. No doubt the only solution in the face of such injustice Tom's admirable persistence will be rewarded. It always comes around.
