Upper Sacramento River Fishing Report

9-27-2016
The Fly Shop

As we head in to October, the flows remain around 200 cfs at Delta. The river should continue to cool off after a brief heat wave. Fish should be moving up from the lake soon to head up and spawn later. Midges, rubber legs, golden stone and your favorite may fly nymph can all work. We are looking forward to the October Caddis hatch which is right around the corner when we can fish Big Dries! Yay! In the interim, try an October Caddis pupa as these bugs are active well before the hatch.

A good fly box will have various sizes of Parachute Adams from #14 - 18, Dark Stonefly Nymphs in #6-8, Black Midge Nymph Patterns and #12 Bird's Nest, #18 Gordon Prince Nymphs. See suggested fly patterns in the accompanying sidebar for reference.
