Surprise

We all appreciated the smooth ride in arriving at our chosen destination pleasantly surprised. Fine water conditions greeted us offering us exactly what we had hoped for – a chance. In the end, despite seeing a couple of good spots of yellowtail, more than enough to get the job done, we scratched only a few here and there contending with fish that had a serious case of lock jaw. Oh well. Come late afternoon, just when the weather turned sour, we hightailed it inside passing the time 'till evening seeking out any form of surprise the ocean was willing to yield. “Even one big croaker would do it” - a quote that proved prescient in the end as that is exactly what Royal Star angler Michael Hays caught. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 pounds this dandy was all it took to justify the exercise. Tomorrow morning will again be passed in pursuit of coastal variety before we head for the barn.
