A very nice day of steady scratch yellowtail fishing in calm conditions. Between the setting and the fishing this day perfectly represented the appeal of long range fishing. Because fishing is of course about more that just the fish on the end of one's line and/or that fish coming over the rail. It's about the whole picture – where one is living the experience and whom one is sharing the experience with. That is why still, in this ultra modern day and age, long range fishing offers opportunities so distinct. It's a step back in time. Not in the way of conveniences and amenities of course, all the modern aspects of this fishery are in the vessels themselves. But the destinations, and frequent caliber of fishing action, call back to times when marvelous abundance was common and one could easily believe that they were they only entity within a thousand miles. Aside from a couple of colleagues in the near vicinity today such was the setting anglers enjoyed. Now comes a change of pace as we return to the offshore grounds seeking variety in the way of tuna, whichever species we may find. In excellent weather we will ply the seas tomorrow gaining altitude in the process.
