A quick turn followed by another southern push on the annual Phillips Steel sponsored five day run. Hot on the heels of an incredibly successful BlackWater four day, we seek similar fortune amidst conditions rife with potential. That said nothing right now is coming easy. There are still abundant fish, and they are still abundantly unwilling to cut loose and bite with abandon. All in good time. Rest assured that it will happen. And when it does one can rest equally assured that a reckoning will come. In fine conditions we sally forth set up for success with a beautiful load of bait and eager group of journeyman anglers. Mixed in the group are a few novices whom will undoubtedly step off this deck better anglers than they are now. That is our goal with them and every other angler new to this fishery. Venturing a first time long range voyage does not without trepidation for many anglers. Most harbor concerns about interfering with more experienced anglers at the rail or not “fiting in” with a more experienced group. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our crewmen are quick to identify those anglers that stand to benefit most from their advice and instruction and share knowledge freely. Over the thirty years that I have been long range fishing I find that the vast majority of anglers are also quick to offer helpful hints about tackle and techniques as well. Recognizing that it is to everyone's benefit in both the short and long term to have angler's maximizing fishing opportunities when they arrive we live to bring out the best in Royal Star angler's; and bring them back!
