Promise

Turning over stones along the way it was a long sojurn toward the land of promise. Upon arrival that promise was a bit less inspirational than the long range ideal. But there was a feel to the area suggesting much better results to come. Between the kelps holding good grade yellowtail and a few handfulls of good size dorado, and the school size tuna, I'd venture that the local season is staged for some darn good fishing. As for us the party appeared to ebb as soon as we arrived. We picked a few and enjoyed the small samples but no quantity was in the cards. On to bigger and better things – we hope. Tomorrow will be the final cut as we try our hand at the jumbo BFT on the local grounds. As has been the case sign and quantity of fish has not been the issue. Abundance best described as stunning has been the norm. But translating that abundance into fish in the hatch has been a daily challenge. Occasionally they have marginally gotten with the program yielding a few handfuls of the most beautiful Pacific bluefin tunas that one can imagine. This is our high hope for tomorrow – a few handfuls, if not only a few, to justify the effort. In primo, flat calm weather time will tell. Photo today feature long time Royal Star veteran and good friend Don Moore with a nice 30# class yellowtail he snagged near an offshore kelp.
