The best I can say is that we have a lot to work with here; incredible conditions and very good sign of tuna in all sizes. Whether that translates into a catch remains to be seen. Call day one an orientation; a day of prospecting and formalities absorbing the lay of the land. The catching we did included a couple of handfuls of fish in the 100 – 190 pound class with at least another handful in the 60 – 80 pound range. But we did not maximize the potential spending plenty of time on the move looking rather than settled in fishing. Unless tomorrow brings a different set of conditions that will change. The most beautiful weather, perfect for fishing, sets the stage for an easy time of it at the rail. That light tropical breeze with very little swell and sea is consistent with so many idyllic successes in this zone I can not begin to recall. Throw some good catching into this equation and it will be complete. Photos today feature charter master and master angler Chris Yamada, who was hotter than fire this morning (as usual), setting the bar early with this 190 pound dandy coming over the rail. Royal Star veteran Joe Bayless, who came out of the gates with a little less fire, made good on the day later ultimately converting this opportunity into a 90 pound class “consolation prize”. We'll take it; and then some.

Recognizing that this is not a yellowtail adventure onward we sailed. In closing today I want to include a few admin items worthy of note. Upon departure we still had one space available on the upcoming Memorial day weekend three day run...... Read More
