Mike here, your ghost writer for the Nakaki Charter. Let me start by saying that I LOVE this trip, the passengers and crew. Most of us have fished together for the past dozen years and keep coming back. I’ve had the pleasure of writing this report in the past and I apologize to those of you who are used to the exciting reports about weather, fish count water temp, wind and sometimes poetry (Larry). For the most part you will get the basics with a little (ok, a lot) of embellishment here and there along with funny stuff that happens throughout the trip. So here we go…
Today the weather was beautiful, we didn’t fish, wind was low, blah, blah blah… We spent the day playing cards and started to get ready. Vince (Money) Corbaci won, again! Weird how he brought the cards and seemed to know what everyone had. Hmmmm, not accusing or anything, but we are switching decks on this next round. The true highlight was the food. The cooks on this trip, Mark, Dave & Joe are putting out great meals, which today was highlighted with seared and sashimi fresh Bluefin as a mid-day snack. Truly ridiculous! Not to outdo that, but we had a guest chef, Dharyl “Wolfgang” Shelbourne who made an insane Cajun buffet gumbo, red beans & rice, ribs and collared greens (see funny story below). Truly amazing!
Funniest thing of the day was my dear friend Gary “The Trump” Cotter, who had never tried collared greens before and really, really liked them. After his first helping, he politely asked Big D for another serving of the “colored” greens. No offense intended, he’s just not the sharpest hook in the box, if you know what I mean!
On a serious note, we have had the pleasure of Lucille’s (Susan’s mom) company for many years on this trip and I look forward to seeing her every year. She is our cheerleader for the trip (she like me the best!) and we all hope you feel better soon! We all send our love and look forward to seeing you next year!
There is lots more in store, stay tuned!
