Slow scratch

Not a bad go of it here; little by little they accumulated throughout the day, but no jumbos showed or made themselves available. So be it. Enough action provided motivation and evidence of the value of time and effort expended at the rail. It's the only way to get it done right now. Put in your time, grind it out, and rewards in the form of both wahoo and tuna will come. Now officially on the backside of our time in this presently veiled paradise admittedly a more grave atmosphere is beginning to emerge. The prospect of glory feels like it is getting farther away, not closer. When we find ourselves in such situations, a not too uncommon theme in the world of offshore fishing, all one can do is recognize the obvious, forge ahead with resolve to make it happen, and never succumb to pity. One of the many things I have learned out here in the past thirty two years is that the ocean does not care. Strength in the face of adversity – keep trying, refuse to yield, and derive solace from the knowledge that it will change. That formula has produced an incredible number of catches throughout my career in the face of seemingly impossible circumstances. And a few times, not many but definitely a few, we have failed. Not that I am courting disaster in this case; the relevant point is that when the odd, but inevitable, bomb out does occur we are all - anglers, crewmen, and Captain's alike - experienced enough to take it on the chin and stay standing. Today's images feature a couple of Royal Star anglers that gave it as well as they took it; time at the rail again pays off. Image number one captures Russ Ung in the classic big tuna position using the rail to his full advantage. Image number two feature Stanley Koh with his fat, mid-afternoon 160 pounder staged to perfection on the rail.
