Royal Polaris Fishing Report

You gotta love it when a good plan works out! Today was a fun filled fishing marathon that provided something for all. The totals were 38 tuna and 49 wahoo which tells you right away that we had some fun today.

The tuna came in most all day long and in all sizes from the mini release models, to Greg Curry’s big fish of the day. Greg was using a salami which was quite fortunate for him. For those who don’t know, it’s a big bait that can weigh several pounds, and after Greg’s fish ingested it and was landed, it tipped the scale at 200.4lbs. It was the largest of the day and won the big prize for largest fish over 200. For the effort he received a Boss 600N two speed reel (plus a year’s supply of tuna.)

Other fish of note were a 193 bait fish landed by Tom Yuch and yes, it’s hard to believe but a 191 kite fish landed by non-other than our host, Jack Nilsen.

Special note, that most of our kite fish were caught with a 7/0 Trokar hook for double trouble, and a 20/0 Eagle Claw (also Trokar hook) for the larger baits on the kite.

There were many others in the mid to upper 100’s including the toughest 182 landed by Francois that I’ve ever seen. He had some difficulties around the anchor rope and other hook ups, but finally was successful after a 2hr and 45 minute grueling battle.

There seemed to be something going at all times today and there is no question that everyone spent some time pulling on something. An action packed day that we greatly appreciated. It was a little breezy first thing in the morning, but by midafternoon the sky was cloudless and the sun was pretty brutal. Not only was it the hottest fishing of the trip but it was the hottest weather too.

Obviously we are not going anywhere for a while and will get right back with the program tomorrow morning. We are all very tired at the moment but invigorated by the action packed day we had.

Another professional over run for Jim.

POEM OF THE DAY

A hot bite? Sure, but REALLY!
His choice of bait was silly
A fly lined tamale
Was absolute folly
They ignored it served without chili.

If you would like to go fishing with us please BOOK ONLINE or call (619) 226-8092 to get in on the action.

First off, happy Valentine’s Day from all of us to all our significant others! Let’s hope the flowers, candy, E-cards, etc., made it to where they were supposed to go on time. Sorry Claude, since you couldn’t make the trip, I’m afraid you’ll have to write your own love poem this year. As far as fishing goes, it was a rewarding morning for a few on board but there just hasn’t been enough to go around the last two days...... Read More
