The wahoo backed off considerably today, but the tuna continued to come aboard steady. When the day was done we had 33 tuna and an even dozen wahoo. Largest fish of the day was caught by Jonathan on his morning watch with a skipjack and it weighed in at 182lbs. There was another reel up for grabs for a non-kite tuna over 200 but that will have to wait for another day.
Kite action would be crazy wild at times and kite jail at other times, and perhaps the best tuna bite of the day came right at dark. Fish continued to be an excellent grade with many 150 and above. Lots of fun and excitement to go around and the sun was once again out in full force insuring that you’d work up a fine sweat while battling these brutes. Some of these tuna have been over achievers as far as how hard they fight for their size. It seems like the young thin ones are the star athletes sometimes putting their older fatter brothers and sisters to shame.
The RSW hold officially opened for business today and there’s already a bunch of sashimi grade tuna just chilling there. A fabulous wahoo dinner may make us try a little harder for them tomorrow, but in truth, I don’t think you’ll find a more determined and hard fishing bunch of guys on any trip. We’re staying put and going at it again tomorrow.
We did have a few problems with some hooks, but it was not a Trokar, the hook that we recommend. We did have a few like this today, but I won’t mention which hook it was, but you can’t go wrong using a Trokar hook.
POEM OF THE DAY
A shark ate the arm off of Trump!
Says he did it to make his polls jump
He’s and ardent supporter
Who heard a reporter
Say Donald would soon have to stump.

First off, happy Valentine’s Day from all of us to all our significant others! Let’s hope the flowers, candy, E-cards, etc., made it to where they were supposed to go on time. Sorry Claude, since you couldn’t make the trip, I’m afraid you’ll have to write your own love poem this year. As far as fishing goes, it was a rewarding morning for a few on board but there just hasn’t been enough to go around the last two days...... Read More
