Wohlford Lake Staff

Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday January 27th.
Next Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday February 10th.
Water temperature: At surface 50.90 f., 7.59 D.O. @ 10’ 51.08 f., 7.44 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.

To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Trout action has slowed, but should rebound after Wednesday’s plant. The hottest spot has been the middle of Boat Dock Cove. Big trout of the week belonged to Edward Trammell and weighed 7.25#s. It was caught on a nightcrawler at the South Shore Rock Pile. The top baits are inflated nightcrawlers, or powerbait dipped in garlic sauce.

Largemouth Bass can be found around structure and hit on crawdads, swimbaits, or dark colored plastics.

Catfish have been biting in earnest for the past two weeks at the west end of the lake. Scott Keophantiroth of Escondido hauled in a 22.45# catfish Thursday using chicken liver at the West Buoy Line. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit.
