BREAKING THE ICE ON A VERY HOT DAY
When we woke up this morning it was already quite warm and tropical, and the wind kicked up today a bit more than we’ve been spoiled by so far. We arrived at the grounds too late to catch the before light bite, but for the first day of fishing we did quite well overall. Tom Neuman started us off by getting the first tuna of the trip which weighed an estimated 145 and would be our biggest landed today. Action was decent throughout the day with some tuna caught on the kite, most on bait, and even a few wahoo slipped into the mix. Remarkably there wasn’t a single major tangle, hardly even small ones, and I’d have to say that everyone worked together like a well-oiled machine. A very auspicious beginning and all expectations are that we’ll just get better as the trip progresses. We’ll attempt to make some kite bait tonight and we will be at it tomorrow morning long before the sun comes up. Good thing we’ve had plenty of time before today to rest up, but even so a long day of fishing makes for a good night’s sleep which will hopefully be interrupted early in the pre-dawn with a hot bite.
POEM OF THE DAY
Their Groupon was gladly redeemed
But the “deal” was not what it seemed
2 for 1 spa and glam
Was a Starkist sham!
And those tuna are now REALLY steamed.

12-6-2015Almost There Today should be our last day of total relaxation as we are slated to be on the tuna grounds around 7 tomorrow morning. Four days into the trip and finally all the reels are on rods, all the top shots are on reels, and hooks are on the top shots ready for battle. I always find it amazing that most angler’s fishing trips would probably be over by now and we have yet to really start. Let’s...... Read More
