7/29/15 A nice offshore outing working up the line picking off several Mother Lode kelps that produced epic fishing for 20 – 30# class yellowtail (that we ironically did not need), a few nice dorado, another shot at a fat wahoo that we did not turn into fact, and good action on mixed grade yellowfin tuna. Finally epic weather was part of the offshore narrative; no doubt this contributed large to the fleet's overall success. In short everyone on the distant offshore grounds put together very good day's of fishing. “Ballslapper” grade dorado are moving in big time, more and more of the 15 – 30# yellowfin are in the mix, and the beautiful grade yellowtail that have been associated with kelps all season long is showing no sign of abating. As long as the weather cooperates confidence in all of our continued success offshore is high. Plenty of variety and quantity now resides in the RSW tanks. Taking that into account we are steaming north heading for waters of the United States of America to target trophy bluefin on our final two days of fishing. Of course we'll be glad to accommodate any other yellowfin tuna or smaller models of bluefin that want to climb on. But the main objective is a shot or two at the regulation jumbos that have been running around up there for the past month or so. Though still not biting with any consistentcy or reliability, in fact to say that they have been biting at all is a stretch, a few bites on that size fish, and at least a few on the deck, has a way of defining our style of fishing in very real proportions. So to the north it is boom or bust. Again with what already resides in the hatch we are prepared for either. Vamanos! Less a photo from today's action I must rely on one more image of my son Duke with long time Royal Star crewman Blake Wasano. On his lunch break Blake slid up to the bow, whipped out a surface jig, and came up with this 22 pound beauty. Duke, a young man in training, was naturally called upon to do the gaffing honors. That aside this photo will grace my album until I am gone – priceless.
