This is the time of year for legwork, often a boom or bust affair, but necessary if we are to find and stay on the best opportunities at tuna offshore. Today's mission definitely came at a price as cruddy conditions beat us up when we made our move up the line. By mid morning though it was all over; the difficult conditions gave way to calm and we got down to the business of looking. Many a stone were overturned along the way, and a collective hundreds of square miles of water were sifted through with fathometers and sonars. And once again the fish logged a decisive victory – we came up with a paltry few most of which were hardly worthy of a fish sandwhich or two at best. A tough go on the fishing front to be sure this well seasoned group of adventurer's took the lack of production in stride easing the deficit of action with abundant comedy and libations. As slow as the catching was a remarkably festive atmosphere reigned strong. A function of experience, durability, and practicality, these veteran anglers recognize the inevitability of such outings. “That's fishing”, as the saying goes. Tomorrow will be the final go at offshore action as we push into a new zone in search of any quality tuna action for this group of hearty souls. Heaven knows they have earned it. Flat calm seas should help.

The miles north were not earned easy. But much to our delight it was better than expected. Setting ourselves up for a final couple days of offshore tuna action in forecast primo conditions, the...... A kick in the teeth offshore here today as we logged a collective bust for all of us looking. A no show, down day, fish moved – whatever the cause - the result was paltry with just a few handfuls of mixed yellowfin and yellowfin making it into the hatch. On the bright side we enjoyed good weather, always a bonus whether fishing is good or slow, but it goes without saying that we are now well behind the...... Read More
