Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Fish Report
5-7-2015
Larry Edwards
According to Captain Temo Verboonen, our Zihuatanejo reporter for the fishing action, this past week was less than a stellar fishing week. Early in the week, the fish were biting and trips were exciting for the anglers that were landing marlin and sailfish. However, as the week progressed, the effects of the full moon and the reappearance of the strong equatorial current phase created some very unfavorable fishing conditions that abruptly brought the good bite to a stand-still and disappointment for the few anglers that did go out. While the surface temps reflect good, warm water, the underlying currents flowing in from the south, (Equatorial Current) are considerably cooler and the fish just fade away to warmer water conditions. In conjunction with the offshore slow fishing was the slow inshore fishing that has been affected by the full moon, the southerly current and adding in the very green water conditions that have seemed o move the inshore fish away from this area, at least for the time being.
IZ Climate: Excellent air temps that ranged from 72 nights o 91 daytime highs and an 83% humidity ratio. It has been a mostly sunny & warm week with just a few passing clouds and very light surface breezes.
Sea Conditions: Topical surface breezes flowing in from the westerly directions that varied from near calm to about 10 mph. Sea surface temps at 83-85 inshore and rising to 86-87 in the offshore waters but do not reflect the underlying temps of the equatorial current that is now on location.
Best Lure/Bait: In the early week, the rigged baits were woking very well for he offshore billfish.
Best Fishing Area: No specific area was reflected in the latest fish report
Bait Supply: No mention of the bait situation was provided this week.
