Much to be thankful for today; the right place at the right time being foremost. Steadily increasing wind and seas made the salient lee of Isla San Martin mighty useful, but not before we compiled an excellent morning score on 12 - 22 pound yellowtail. From the opening bell at daylight through around 0930 the yellows, and plenty of opportunistic jumbo 'cudas and other toothy varieties, made for non-stop action

Following our day making morning hit we passed the remaining time spot fishing for variety mixing in a few more yellows, plenty of opportunists, and even an errant croaker in the process. In light of limited options on the outside due to grumpy conditions that we spent a few hours verifying, this day of fishing lands square in the category of success. Quality fish in the hatch, a full day at the rail, and weather made good through prudent planning and a healthy portion of good fortune; we'll take it.

Now for the final round offshore. Mahi Mahi are in the plan in addition to a few more yellowfin tuna. And, if we are really lucky, perhaps a lone skin, or two. The nasty wind and seas are schedule to be gone tomorrow, and good riddance. We'll see if we can put the improved conditions to good use in a full day of looking offshore. Photo today features master angler Robin Yi joining us for the first time on Royal Star. Robin snared a nice croaker just before this dandy yellowtail that came on the very next drop.

An opening sortie short on action was thankfully transformed in the final minutes of daylight when Captain Brian Sims, wearing his engineer hat this run, eagle eyed a fat kelp paddy with no time to spare. Well after the sun had set we put the waning twilight to good use and followed...... Read More
