We started off on the right track beginning the first of our impromptu October three day runs with an afternoon of offshore fishing for dorado and yellowfin tuna. An opening sortie short on action was thankfully transformed in the final minutes of daylight when Captain Brian Sims, wearing his engineer hat this run, eagle eyed a fat kelp paddy with no time to spare. Well after the sun had set we put the waning twilight to good use and followed through deep into the dark. Those schoolie yellowfin and a couple of handfuls of dorado were overly eager for a few minutes and took a beating for it. And it was a good thing.

Setting the right tone of success for this adventure tomorrow will see a shift in strategy as we head for the coast and some variety angling. Old man weather is forecast to kick up his heels for a day so the plan is predictably consistent with conditions. We'll scratch and scrape up anything worthy of a tag but of course yellowtail will be the main target. Reports from the beach indicate good opportunity with favorable conditions and weather a platform for success. With this load of bait, and a group of anglers ready to rock, a full day of fishing is bound to produce. We shall see.
