Beginning our day in the company of a few colleagues at "Happy Jacks Fish Farm" we quickly succumbed to claustrophobia heading west to answer our calling. A few nice ones did result from the early session setting us up for a fish rich tour that had only bonus potential at this stage of our voyage. Starting on day one, in this case actually the first afternoon, good fortune has followed us the entire way. The only off days on the fishing, catching really, were those necessary to make way from point A to point B. It has been a good run, tremendously successful in every category.

Primo weather, fishing and catching that in every way defines long range, we could not be more satisfied with the results. Beginning with Izorline representatives Tom and Dale Kurata, both of whom are pure class individuals that are a pleasure to share time at sea with, this group of veteran and novice anglers melded into a working, fish catching machine from the moment they stepped on board. They had the right mind set and approach. The catching was the bonus due to one and all recognizing the value of good manifested by good. Instinct or intentional such results are not by accident; hard effort and optimistic faith more often than not do work.

But enough of the philosophical assignations. The big three were again achieved in stunning proportion. Quality (and then some) in the form of 80 - 125# bluefin, quantity, to the point of us driving away from fish numerous times to remain within our Mexican limits, variety, in both scenery and species as good as any voyage I have every piloted - this run is as good as one will ever experience. We are grateful for it.

To end today's tale our final search mission revealed more and more yellowfin tuna as we headed into zones not recently traveled. They are almost everywhere in varying size classes ranging from six to twenty five pounds. Rest assured that there is a lot of good fishing on yellowfin due to come for both us and the local fleet; a banner late summer/early fall season awaits.

Hanging it up in the late afternoon, we spruced our girl up and prepped her for the next seven day run. Captain Brian Sims takes the helm as the long time group assembled by Mako Nakamura and Ross Meyers stages to take advantage of such incredible potential. Look for Brian's reports to follow. Final voyage photos feature Donn Walker with a 35# class bluefin landed a few couple of days prior, and Charter Master Tom Kurata with a dandy seventy five pounder landed on the iron on day one.

8/14/14 Very good fishing again offshore. As much yellowfin tuna in the 12 - 20 pound class as one desires to catch, and the coveted bluefin still providing shots at the quality everyone seeks, about sums it up. This is a setting that we as a fleet have not experienced for many years. The consistency of production and incredible opportunities are not limited to one or two areas; the whole ocean offshore from west of San Diego to west of Ensenada...... Read More

8/13/14 A calm, relaxing ride north doing a little fishing for fun, and the stew pot, along the way. Beautiful scenery new to most of these anglers demonstrated to even the uber veterans that we still have a few original options in our repertoire. Time is the most challenging obstacle when it comes to tours off the beaten path. In this case we are golden, and took full advantage. An easy afternoon cruise following the morning fun settled one and all....... Read More
