Well I hate to say it but we closed this one out with a fizzle; no bluefin to be had but for one fortunate colleague who
got on the right, and only, spot in the early a.m. well in advance of our arrival. We spent a full day prospecting below
the prior few days most productive zones, then a few hours in prime position, for nothing worthy of note - mucho small
yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, and dorado all of which were tenderly released for next season.

Though we would have preferred a more fortunate result I can not report any real surprise. We headed up on a hope and a
prayer gambling that this time the bluefin would push through the standard 2013 three or four day showing. They didn't,
adhering to the pattern established back in early June.

None worse for the wear we weathered the slow day enjoying calm seas following a bumpy ride north last night. A bounty of
quality yellowtail, yellowfin tuna, dorado, and wahoo already resides in our burgeoning outboard RSW tanks. The goal today
was never quantity; just a few more to shore up the quality category.

So we head for the barn well satisfied with the effort and results. Always ready for more, this group of veteran anglers
and south land fire fighters will assemble again same time next season for the first of an annual new ten day run.

Meanwhile we tie up Royal Star for a few days tomorrow shutting down for a scheduled three day maintenance interval to
keep her mechanical systems up to speed and address the inevitable odds and ends that arise during the busy summer season.
Captain Brian Sims, the boys, and I will be around the dock living our hands on philosophy completing the busy list of
projects planned. Departure on the first October ten day of our fall season is Wednesday, October 16th. Until then perhaps
a few photos of the projects in progress will be shared. Still, without a doubt, we'd rather be fishing; and will be soon
enough.

Many thanks to Cliff Joralmon, Tim Marshall, and the rest of this fantastic group of inspiring, incredibly enthusiastic
long range anglers. We already look forward to next year.

10/11/13 A high intensity offshore affair as we plied the waters until late afternoon seeking a specific sign that was maddening in its absence. Fortunately the morning did provide a few chances, including a ripper on the quality 25 - 35# yellowfin that was the real deal though short lived, but the main vein was elusive driving us to the point of name calling by late afternoon. Perhaps that did it, or maybe it was just a coincidence, but shortly after a...... Read More

10/10/13 Aside from a good area of eager morning yellowtail that we took only short advantage of the catching portion of the day, for the target variety species, was a bust. Off conditions did us in encouraging the millions of bass in this zone to take the day off. Looking at the surroundings, both above and below the surface, it is almost impossible to believe that one could employ all of our tactics and come up empty, but that is exactly...... Read More
