A fair day of skinnin' poking and plodding our way along confirming yesterday's theory in the process. One here and one there
as we covered quite a distance over open water is a convincing example that the wahoo are simply spread out, off the
shallows, staging for another assault when conditions are to their preference. Fine weather, a little bumpier than yesterday
but unworthy of complaint, made for an easy go of it as we applied ourselves to the wahoo effort the majority of the day.

Come sundown, with plenty of trolling under our belts, we answered the call from the north. There is still some incredible
bluefin action occurring offshore - still - that we are setting our sights on for the back end of this voyage. Mind you we
are not under any illusions. Running on the blood, especially bluefin blood that is 450 miles and at least two days away, is
a mission fraught with peril. But with fish in the hatch yet virtually no tuna, and everything we could accomplish down below
said and done, it is the obvious next step. Catching or not it is the correct move.

Along the way we have plenty of time and area to cover focusing on yellowfin tuna and a least a fair portion of one day in
relaxing variety mode. This is a group of anglers that has enjoyed the spectacular Baja coast before. As such, on every
voyage we make together, a request to target Calico Bass and coastal variety if the opportunity arises is advanced early. At
present the timing and proximity could not be better.

So we shift into trophy yellowtail and coastal variety mode for about half a day tomorrow resuming the offshore search for
yellowfin and bluefin tuna thereafter. Photos today feature Royal Star veterans Joel Gamester and Keith Bridges both rightly
pleased as their wahoo slide over the rail. Joel's first of two wahoo landed today succumbed to the trolled "Marauder" while
Keith's fell victim to the classic wahoo "bomb".

10/8/13 Fish move in and out of these banks and offshore zones regularly; not exactly a revelation, but an explanation often too simple for the searching mind to reconcile. One explanation/excuse regularly advanced by less seasoned anglers is that the guys before them "caught them all", especially when reports of big production prefaced their arrival. This seems to be a perspective shared by, but not unique to, many recreational boaters in particular; one that I have heard a multitude of times...... Read More

10/7/13 One of those classic long range outings, the fisherman's dream, when conditions are perfect and the fish follow suit. A perfect pace to enjoy the occasion combined with a group of anglers well schooled in this style of fishing resulted in a bounty of 18 - 25# yellowtail in the tanks to set us right. Exhausted and exuberant when the lunch hour rolled around we took advantage of the morning's good fortune and continued the same strategy that produced such...... Read More
