Fish Report for 3-5-2013
3/4/13
We made of nice day of it here at the island time forgot. No big hits, no big bonanza, no big cows; but a good
steady scratch, especially in the afternoon, on 80 - 120's with a few smaller, and a few bigger mixed in. It was a
good start that provided a decent preliminary lay of the land.
Fishing highlights are by far a tremendous quantity of mid grade tuna and excellent water conditions. The weather
could use a boost as a big swell generated from high winds off Central American has us rolling about. Also, there
is a strange reluctance by the majority of fish we see to bite with the kind of abandon this magical island is
famous for. But, this is not unheard of, and they are biting well enough. Relative to the few, but famous, or
infamous, drubbings we have endured here, this day was all good. We are highly motivated by what we have to work
with, and stoked with what went in the hatch. We are well on our way.
Now the trick is to keep the ball rolling and improve upon the foundation laid today. It goes without saying that
all of us are ecstatic to have spent the majority of our day following arrival in the act of fishing, and catching.
Heavy overcast made for a bit of a gloomy setting, but the accompanying cool temperature, and nice steady breeze
made the adjustment to full tropical conditions easy as can be.
Photo today features long time Royal Star and long range veteran Bob Yokoi enjoying his first run to Clipperton
while pulling on what became a sleek, 120 pound class yellowfin now resting in the hatch. The adventure continues.

3-3-20133/2/13 No excitement to report from this day; chewing up nautical miles at cruising speed while tinkering with equipment, sharing tales of prior exploits, and enjoying the tireless attempts of our entourage of boobies to pick off flying fish flushed from cover by the Royal Star bow wake. A quiet day of southerly travel as conditions gradually softened yielding to a tropical calm. Another full day of travel tomorrow will certainly elicit the full tropical spectrum as sea surface temperatures and...... Read More

3/01/13 Phase one, perhaps the most crucial of the voyage, was a success. Not before doing a little fishing though, that also produced a few victories, but nothing worthy of mention other than stocking the larder with primo fresh loins. The real reason for the abbreviated deviation from our three day southerly trek was to stock up on preferred local baits, if available, positioning ourselves ideally for what we may find at our ultimate destination. And stock...... Read More
