Fish Report for 8-31-2009
Patience please while I get the photos dialed in. Since we switched over to posting photos at full resolution from the beach we have changed computers on board Royal Star using a more modern program. As I am much more a fisherman than computer technician it will take a few days to streamline the process. Regardless the photos we are sending from the boat will be smaller and a much lower resolution than those posted from land. It is a necessity dictated by the slow transmission rate of data via satellite.
Enough about that though. The important news is that the fishing remained on track as Guadalupe produced another phenomenal day of catching that found anglers visibly satiated on the big yellowfin by mid day. With such incredible action, even the occasional sacrifice to the local crew barely rankled as production on deck far outweighed the loss; although I still resent the greedy dogs - especially when they merely maul the fish for what appears to be pure enjoyment. With a boomer catch already on board and one full day remaining, we are in search mode seeking glory in the form of bigger bluefin offshore. It is tall order, but we are in the business of making it happen. We will see. Epic, flat calm weather continues and we are perfectly positioned to get the job done. Regardless we are in no need of any kind of robust quantity. It is now about a little action and seeking the glory hit.
Today's photo features angler Darin Sato with a classic Guadalupe yellowfin tuna taken mid day. Catching this size fish in the incredible setting of Guadalupe's legendary south end never gets old. With the quantity of fish showing around the island as well as the tremendous quantity of jumbo albacore and beautiful yellowfin offshore it is shaping up to be a very good September. Throw in a few jumbo bluefin and the picture is complete. The stage is set for plenty more spectacular fishing to come. If you are on upcoming trips, get ready. It is going to happen.

8-30-2009When you're hot you're hot. That about says it all taking today's results into account. Eighty eight premium Guadalupe yellowfin and one bigeye tuna found their way into our RSW tanks after as anglers reveled in the pursuit of the beautiful size class tuna throughout the day. It was not the kind of fishing we experienced yesterday, with crazy biting fish annihilating everything that hit the water, but every angler putting time in at the rail was rewarded numerous times...... No doubt we were living right today with a handful of good stops on mixed 20 - 40# albacore and 20 - 50# yellowfin tuna that added up to a fantastic day of offshore fishing. Combined with near flat calm conditions, a better set up could not be drafted, and we took full advantage of the opportunity before breaking from the effort in the late afternoon to set up our next day of fishing at Guadalupe. What a day of...... Read More
