Royal Star Fish Report

7-27-2009
Royal Star

After a morning of working south and monitoring the information coming in from our colleagues in various zones, the noon hour arrived with the decision to continue the southerly trek for another two hundred twenty miles. Alijos rocks is the call. As such plenty of time and effort was dedicated to rigging for Wahoo and larger yellowfin tuna as we ate up the miles throughout the afternoon. Now that we are committed to fishing Alijos our focus narrows for at least the next two days, possibly three, but visions of offshore albacore and bluefin tuna glory remain and will be pursued on the return journey north; weather permitting of course.

Before we get ahead of ourselves though we have our work cut out for us. There have been very good signs of both tuna and Wahoo around Alijos but our colleagues who arrived at the famed outcropping yesterday most certainly did their best to skim the cream off the Wahoo that have been unmolested there for over a week. Rest assured had the roles been reversed we would have done the same. The tuna are another story however and these fantastic groups of anglers are ready to get down to business targeting the better size yellowfin while picking away at the remaining Wahoo that will inevitably be around. After a full day of travel we can't arrive soon enough. We have good working weather, a primo load of sardines, a crew that is eager to get to work, and sufficient time to get the job done. A little cooperation from the fish now and we will have it licked. It's game time. Look for tomorrow's report with the details.

Aside from maybe a day or two where just about anyone could bumble around and stumble into a biting school this has been the kind of fishing...... Read More

Today we finished off with a handful of stops on albacore. The mood on deck was very relaxed as we were just putting the icing on the cake. Many thanks to Phillips Steel and The Wood Group for putting this charter together. These guys have a great sense of humor and kept each other and the crew in stitches for the entire voyage. We will return at 0600 tomorrow and both big guns are coming out on our next trip....... Read More
