Fish Report for 1-30-2008
Another fine day of production on mid size yellowfin in the fifty to one hundred ten pound class in sloppy sea conditions that were thankfully made tolerable by the ability to remain stationary on the anchor while the fish came to us. What a godsend as anglers awoke to find an eager school had found us during the night and were ready to get with the program right out of the gates. We remained on the anchor throughout the day enjoying the action until we had our fill of this size class tuna then decision time arrived as we had seen zero sign of trophy class tuna while investing much time and effort at the rail during the past two days. Figuring we should have had any indication if a quantity of larger tuna was still around, we opted for a move outside in the late afternoon heading to the southwest in plenty tolerable traveling conditions with the majority of sea and wind conditions at our rear.
Perhaps the trophy class yellowfin has finally departed this region. Perhaps they were simply taking a tour outside during the past few days. Who is to say? If I were to offer my best guess however, it would be the latter as conditions have not changed from what was "normal" over the past month. Chalk it up to timing which is really the great decider on these voyages anyway. Our part comes in when adjustments or decisions are prompted by what Mother Nature throws in our direction. It is highly likely that some big fish are still cruising the "inside" zone but it?s time for a change of scenery. The exclusive pursuit of trophy yellowfin had arrived as we have the quantity component of a successful voyage in our favor. Now it is a big fish game and we are headed for the traditional grounds that are legendary in this arena.

1-29-2008We got off to a good start here with a full day of steady action on sixty to one hundred ten pound yellowfin tuna in flat calm conditions. In fact we drove away from the mid size class fish mid afternoon taking a tour in search of trophies elsewhere. We encountered no giants but signs are excellent with everything we hope to see in this region aligned to favor a showing on jumbos as long as conditions hold. To that...... Read More

We are out and underway with an eager group of veteran and anglers new to long range alike all of whom are well prepared for what we hope will be a strong beginning to our fishing tomorrow. That's right, we will be fishing tomorrow morning at daylight struggling through a mere overnight run that will put us on the offshore grounds in what we hope will be fine position tomorrow and beyond. Time will tell and the fish gods will...... Read More
