Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

We are out and underway on our first eight day of the spring/summer season heading south towards Alijos rocks despite shaky reports from that destination. The one certainty is that there is plenty of good ocean between here and there and with that in mind we will begin our day of fishing today while traveling down. Among the many attractive features of our voyages at this time of year is the fact that the entire area we work in holds great fishing potential as new schools of fish move up the coast from the subtropical precincts they frequent in winter months. With an amazing (and sometimes exhausting) fifteen hours of working daylight as we approach the summer solstice, we certainly maximize our fishing time on these voyages and we plan to do exactly that today as we head south looking.

As this is our first annual Newell/Hayabusa sponsored spring eight day I have to say that the fortunate nineteen anglers who have joined us reaped the rewards of choosing this voyage last night when Newell representative Dave Rocchi gave away fantastic tackle packages, t-shirts, and hats before raffling off an incredible amount of prime fishing equipment including three superb, brand new Newell reels and a bevy of state of the art terminal tackle. Before we begin fishing, I want to extend our thanks to Richard Hightower from Newell reels as well as all the manufacturers who contributed the fantastic equipment to make the drawing possible. Now we will see if we can put it to good use on the grounds during the upcoming weeks. We will keep you posted on our progress of course.

In the end what we encountered was nothing to really sink our teeth into but we did see more indications that school size yellowfin are infiltrating the area. We are continuing down the line planning to put in at least one more day offshore giving...... Read More

We have definitely been a little detached over the last few days as we have several new projects in the works on Royal Star, the best of which is a new sat phone that will allow Royal Star anglers the convenience of pre paid phone cards and use of the phone in the forward section of the galley. That?s right, no more schlepping up to the bridge requesting use of the phone while the captain and crew standby. Royal Star...... Read More
