Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

We are off and running on our second 2004 Panama voyage following a few days that were fully occupied in the pursuit of our load of bait. Once again we were successful in our bait fishing although the learning curve did dish out a few costly lessons. Such is fishing and we are presently heading towards Bahia Honda where top of the order is to load up on some bigger baits (blue runners) to supplement our anchoveta. From what we saw on our first voyage, both Randy and I believe that our ratio of big fish will undoubtedly improve by using bigger baits so this time we saved space to accommodate a load. Now the challenge is to catch them and we are prepared to give whatever it takes to the effort. Our latest information from the outside indicates windy conditions and little sign of fish and with this in mind we are actually feeling good about dedicating a day to the bait effort. Following our bait day, we will make the short (thirty mile) run to the grounds and with any luck, get down to business.

The picture here continues to improve with more fish moving in every day and the bite continuing to improve. The cows are also here in modest numbers but rest assured that this will also change for the better. For those of you coming on our...... Read More

Two hundred pound class yellowfin flying out of the water absolutely hammering local baits had out hearts racing and adrenaline in overdrive but their focus remained on their high speed quarry and we could only watch with envy. As the morning progressed into afternoon, the fish slowed down but so did their...... Read More
