Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

Well there's no sense singing a sob story here so I won't. To quote my old friend Kevin Nonoguchi "the fishing isn't slow here; it stopped". The ocean in this zone simply went dead and as a result we will relocate for our final day and hope for salvation in the form of a few trophy yellowfin. In the meantime all one can do is enjoy the epic weather and beautiful scenery and realize of course that like any long range adventure this is a fishing expedition. The fish do not always cooperate and in these cases there is no alternative other than to get tough and forge ahead. This is our plan and with a full final day ahead of us we will take it down to the wire in search of a final moment of glory.
Our photo today features first time Royal Star angler Gratian Bidart with his 211# trophy taken five days past on a black skipjack using the big gear. There is nothing like fishing with confidence and using a 200# wind-on leader with a 11/0 J hook is as close to a guarantee as an angler can get.
Congratulations on your fine catch Gratian!

We have...... Read More

All in all a very frustrating day of fishing consisting of numerous shows of big fish with very little interest in biting what we had to offer. There were a few bright moments including a 192 and a 172 otherwise our catch was dedicating to the tagging effort and released in the name of science. We did take advantage of the mid day lull today spending a few hours on the most beautiful beach one can imagine exploring, snorkeling, fishing,...... Read More
