Once again, Wilderness Unlimited is offering the newly formed Becoming an Outdoors-Woman, California organization an opportunity to conduct a fly fishing workshop on its Bidwell Ranch property.

If you are interested in learning to fly fish from expert instructors in one of the most beautiful places in California, this is the class for you. This year there will be sessions for beginners and intermediates. There are only 30 slots available in this class. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Deadline to apply is Sept. 10. Space is limited.

This Beyond BOW California workshop is scheduled for Sept. 22-24. The location is Bidwell Ranch in Shasta County. Wilderness Unlimited has operated a fly-fishing school on this property for more than 25 years. The clinic is world-renowned and led by a team of experts. Located in the Hat Creek Valley of Shasta County, this beautiful ranch has four ponds and approximately 1.5 miles of Lost Creek. Open permanent pastures and hay fields flanked by the famous Hat Creek Rim on the east and scattered juniper and brushy lava flows around the rest of the property add to the scenic setting.

This comprehensive workshop will cover all of the basics of fly-fishing: casting, reading the water, entomology, conservation, fly tying, knots, landing and releasing, and plenty of hands-on practice. In addition, for the intermediates there will be an obstacle course. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 22. Departure is Sunday afternoon. Arrival on Thursday evening is preferable. All equipment will be provided, including four flies. If you need more flies, you can bring your own or purchase at a drastically reduced price at the workshop.

?Į?ĮThe cost of the workshop is $200 per person, a fraction of what is typically charged for this popular clinic. We will be camping at the ranch so you will need to bring your tent, sleeping bag/bed roll, and food for as long as you stay (Don't forget the water.) A California sports fishing license is required.

For more information and to sign up for the workshop, go to www.bowcalifornia.org or call Susan Herrgesell at (530) 347-0227.
