Long way from home

10-28-2007
Dave Jacobs

Northern California must feel like a world away from home for John Phelan of Dublin, Ireland who was asked to join good friend Ray Sheeran for a day of trout and steelhead fishing on the Sacramento River in late October. The group met up with guide Dave Jacobs of Professional guide service near Anderson, California and enjoyed some fantastic rainbow trout fishing with over 40 hooked along with a handful of hatchery adult steelhead to 6 pounds. Most rainbow's average 1 to 3 pounds. Angler's sidedrifting small hand tied glo bugs in various egg color patterns can hook 30 to 40 bows a day with the shot at some nice steelhead mixed in. Trout and steelhead fishing will continue to be good through November, so grab a friend and give it a shot.
