Captain Johns Fish Report 10-23-07

10-23-2007
Johnny Williams

This afternoon's bay and jetty fishing trip was run using the partyboat Capt. John. Steering the boat and the 27 fishermen toward a great fishing afternoon was Capt. Tony Langston. Baits were fished at or near the bottom in the area of Galveston's south jetty resulted in many knot-straining hookups. Those solid hookups numbered at least fifty-three. That's the number of bull redfish that were lifted onto the deck, only eighteen of which were tagged and kept. Here's a list of the total catch this afternoon:

?Ģ 53 bull redfish (35 released to fight again)
?Ģ 12 gafftop catfish
?Ģ 1 whiting

While all of these four hour bay and jetty fishing trips may not have this number of sizeable bull redfish being reeled in, it's obvious that they are here now. Give the office at Galveston's Pier 19 a call to be a part of one of these trips. Come out and see if you can hear your knots creak, or at least feel like they probably are. The office phone numbers, 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853 are the gateway to your bay and jetty fishing experience with Williams Party Boats.

The 38 fishermen aboard the partyboat Capt. John were in for one of those nice red snapper catches that will shortly be stopped. That stoppage will be the closure of the red snapper fishery in Federal waters, October 31 is the last day out there and it's going to be closed for six to eight months. While it would be nice if all the trips made before the closure had a catch like today's, it's not guaranteed...but you never know. Capt....... Read More

Today's offshore fishing trip by the partyboat Capt. John was run to an area about 50 miles to the south of the island. Shortly after leaving Galveston's Pier 19, Capt. Tony Langston turned at the end of the south jetty and entered the two foot seas of the open Gulf for the ride offshore. Once in the chosen area, the 36 fishermen started working their baits of cut squid or whole Spanish sardines throughout the water column, in the 100-110' deep...... Read More
