Ran Out Forever

Bill Roecker

Roy Rose docked Royal Polaris September 28 after a six-day trip to Cedros Island and the albacore grounds. The Accurate trip was chartermastered by Pete Heimbach, and Rose tied the boat up at Fisherman's Landing with an excellent catch of yellowtail and albies.

Joe Alvarez of Montebello won first place for a 47-pound albacore, one of the season's largest. He said he got it on a sardine and a 3/0 ringed Super Mutu hook on 50-pound Izorline. He fished with an Accurate 665 H reel and a Calstar 765 M rod tied by Will Kwon.

John Joseph of Seattle had a story to go with his second-place fish. It was a 43.8-pound yellowtail, which also came on a 665 Accurate and a 765 L rod.

"It took at least 20 minutes to get him in, said John. "He ran out forever. Then he ran up and down the side of the boat. This was my very first trip; I was with my dad."

Eric Hess of Jensen Beach won third place for a 37.5-pound albie. The three were joined by Kim Nguyen of Santa Clara as honorable mention for her 35.8-pound albacore.
