Brian Kiyohara docked American Angler at Pt. Loma Sporfishing September 24 after a five-day trip with 28 anglers; a Turner's Rod & Reel charter with chartermaster Rich Jenkins.

"What a great way to end the trip," wrote Brian September 23. "The albacore floated, it was all you want, and the weather was perfect. The gang from Turners and the passengers not from Turners meshed together beautifully and what a super-nice group they were collectively. Jeff Brown from Colorado sewed up the jackpot with a 53-pound bluefin tuna and the rest will be settled up at the dock by Capt. Brian. Martha and Margaret added a special touch to the trip, keeping the guys real--thanks girls!"

Thomas J. Brown Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO won first place for a 53-pound bluefin. He got it with a sardine on a 4/0 Mustad hook, tied to 30-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and 80-pound Power Pro Spectra backing on a Penn 330 reel and a Penn Slammer six-foot rod.

"He tested me for 20 minutes," commented Brown. "He bit on a hot-swimming bait."

John Gailey of Carlsbad won second place for a 41.4-pound yellowtail. Phil Leitner of Palmdale got a 39-pound albacore and won third place.
