Frank LoPreste docked his Royal Polaris September 22 after a seven-day Yo's-Blackwater trip with 31 anglers that visited Alijos Rocks.

"Weather today was quite breezy," he wrote September 19, "with winds up to 20 knots. Luckily by 11:00 hours, it backed off and the afternoon was beautiful.

"We did have a nice morning of fishing. We had 27 Yellowfin tuna, with Tim Ogawa catching the largest one, estimated weight was around 110 pounds. The Wahoo today were quite large with some going up to 60 pounds. We also had some Yellowtail and, some very nice Dorado.

"We will start our morning on Thursday at the San roque 22 fathom spot. We are hoping for some good Yellowtail fishing."

Tim Ogata's fish was the best of the trip, at 107 pounds, but not eligible for the jackpot because it came on the kite. The bait was a squid on two Mustad hooks: a 7691 10/0 and a 20/0 circle hook. He used a kite rig from the boat, with 130-pound Izorline on a Tiagra 50 reel and a Calstar 64654 XXH rod.

Dave Uradomo of Torrance wo n first place for a 64.8-pounder. Ken Wh ite of Encinitas was second for a 64.6-pouner, and Sanford Morita of Anaheim was third, for a 63.1-pound Alijos yellowfin tuna.
