HOT DAY AT HALF MOON BAY

9-14-2007
John Thompson

This was my first ever Rockfish trip in the San Francisco area and I was greeted by Sherry Ingles in the tackle shop. She really knew her stuff and made sure I had the right stuff for the days trip. We started boarding the Queen of Hearts at about 6:00am and were greeted by deck boss Heather Shirley, after all were aboard she gave us our saftey talk. We then had our SFR raffle and gave away some Kone Zone Salmon Flashers and SFR T-shirts.

Capt Bob Ingles then came down and introduced himself and we were soon underway to the fishing grounds. I gotta say that was one of he smoothest ride I've ever had and the weather was perfect. After a short one hour run were we told to let em go, it didn't take long and there were fish hitting the deck, our first stop found several short ling cod, so Capt Bob decided to make a short move a little deeper. We soon started finding some very nice reds and a few keeper lings. We satyed in the deeper water (75-100 feet) the rest of the day. I would like to that Glenn Itano for giving me a few lessons on how to work those jigs for the ling's, they paid off for me and I soon had a 10 pounder on the gaff. My biggest ling in many years. He sure knew how to work those jigs, he had a 10 lb ling and then on the last drop of the day with seconds to go before it was time to head back, he nailed the Jackpot with a 23 lb ling cod. It was a hitchhiker and Heather was quick to gaff, what a way to end the day. Capt Bob came down and presented Glenn Itano with the jackpt trophy and a spool of 25lb Izorizine to John Knoble for coming in second with a nice 11 lb ling cod. Hats off to Glenn Itano for giving the jackpot to the crew, what a guy!!

I'm already making plans for returning to Half Moon Bay to go out on the Queen of Hearts, if you've never been up there give it a try. The crew and boat were great and I will be back!! Thanks to Capt Bob, Heather and Sherry for making sure we all had a great time, and also to your "regulars" for helping to make sure this "southerner" had a great day.
