Sam Patella docked his American Angler October 21 at Pt. Loma Sportfishing after a 10-day trip with 25 anglers. The trip visited Alijos Rocks and Turtle Bay and Cedros Island among other spots.

Tito Lazcano of San Gabriel won first place, for a 131-pound yellowfin.

"Even a blind hog finds one once in a while," said Tito. "He was pretty brutal for 45 minutes?Ķ"

Lazcano said he fished a sardine o0n a 4/0 Gorilla hook, with 50-pound blue Izorline and 665-pound Izorline Spectra backing on a Penn 16 S reel and a Dan's Custom 700 H rod.

Bob Chapman of Newport Beach was second for a 124-pounder, and Jim Tallerico of Las Vegas won third place for a 1114-pound tuna. Dado DeLeon of Cerritos had the best yellowtail, a 52-pounder.

The trip was a Penn Fishing University charter. Steve Carson was chartermaster, and said he got the best brace of yellowtail of his life, a 42.5 and a 42-pounder, on Sumo 7X jigs in sardine color, while field-testing the new Penn Torque 300 reel.
