Mike Lackey docked his Vagabond at Pt. Loma Sportfishing after a six-day trip that visited Alijos Rocks and San Pablo. Big tuna bit at the rocks, he said, though not with abandon. There was a very good yellowtail bite in on the beach.
"We had real nice weather," said Lackey, "and we fished the rocks for a day and San Pablo for a day. Beside the tuna we got half a dozen white seabass and 18 wahoo."
Brian Allo of Menifee won first place for an 80-pound tuna. He said he nabbed it with a mackerel baited on a 6/0 ringed Super Mutu hook on 50-pound Izorline. He used a TLD 30 reel and a Calstar 765 L rod.
Mike Montgomery of Buena Park took second, for a 76-pounder, and Craig Sawa of Mission Hills won third place, for a 72-pound yellowfin tuna.
