The Gang at Blue Ribbon

Later today Cam, Patrick and I will float the Madison in hopes of finding a few trout rising to emerging midges in selected spots along the way. Jackie and I checked the river out yesterday and found a few midges and fewer fish rising to them. We are still a couple weeks from solid midge emergences on rivers like the Madison and Henry's Fork, Yellowstone and Gallatin but anglers like us have to get on the rivers in the weather we have had. The last 2 weeks have been warm with high temps in the 40's and the nymph fishing has been superb. Our tiny pink Glossosoma caddis larva pattern trailed behind a Tim's Soft Hackle Stone has been killing. One of our black Zebra's behind a $3 beaded Dip has worked well too. When we find fish rising to midges a #20 Zelon Midge has worked great and our new Scotty's Midge has taken the best fish on top. Look for the Scotty's Midge in our New Fly Section of our online catalogue in January. Those of you members of our Fly of the Month Club know all about just how effective this little pattern is!
