Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

10-9-2014
Larry Edwards

A very slow weekly fishing report for Puerto Morelos that reflected a total of 6 days fished this past week for the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet. The catch report reflected 5 giant barracuda, 2 bonito, 4 amberjack, 1 Spanish mackerel, 6 grouper, 2 chac-chi, 5 banana fish, 4 snapper and 4 triggerfish. Still, that's a 5-plus fish average in the overall scheme of things and it appeared the bottom fishing far out-weighed the surface action.

PM Climate: Very good weather with some scattered clouds through the week and even an occasional thunder shower. Temps ranged from 75 nights to 86 daytime highs and an 89% humidity level.

Sea Conditions: Surface breezes flowing from the easterly directions that ranged to 14 mph. Water temps are warm and holding at 86 degrees from Cancun to Cozumel areas.

Best Bait: The availability of the ever present ballyhoo continue to provide the anglers with an excellent supply of baits for rigging, slabbing or cutting.
