Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

8-29-2014
Larry Edwards

It's a different ocean on the Caribbean side but the rains have found Puerto Morelos, too. A rainy & wet week with more on the way for the next 7 days or so, with the projection ranging from 50-90% possibilities. As for the fishing, the catching reflected some good action that included 2 sailfish, 8 dorado, 7 bonito, 2 wahoo, 5 giant barracuda, 1 needlefish, 24 triggerfish, 8 grouper, 11 banana fish, 10 snappers, 1 chac-chi, 1 porgy and 4 soap fish for a total of 17 days fished.

PM Climate: Another area with a wet & rainy week and more coming. Temps ranged from 77 nights to 89 daytime highs and 84% humidity levels.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps stable at 84 degrees. Surface breezes flowing in mostly from the easterly directions typically between 7 & 19 mph. There were a couple of choppy afternoons but still fishable days.

Best Lure/Bait: The fresh bait of choice continues to be the readily available ballyhoo provided on a daily basis for the sportfishing operations.
