6lb 9oz Alper tops action at South Lake!!!
8-12-2007
Jared Smith
Weather conditions were pleasant this week and the fishing continued to be strong with lots of full stringers coming out of the lake. It was another solid week for bait dunkers with Rainbow Powerbait and nightcrawlers fooling a lot of fish, especially at the Gilbert Glacier inlet near the back of the lake. In addition to the tophy rainbows, the load of 1-1/2lb avergerage Alpers we put in a few weeks ago are starting to come out in numbers with some 5 fish limits weighing close to 10lbs. Trolling is still very productive mid-lake but it's not as consistent as it was a few weeks ago. Frog Pattern needlefish and Red/Gold Thomas Bouyants are still producing and word has it that a few guys were killin 'em on a brown trout pattern Rapala CD-7. Fly and a bubble combo early or late n the day also continues to be strong. Big fish this week was a 6lb 9oz rainbow caught by Steve Domes of Chalfant, CA using rainbow powerbait. Other notable catches include John Hershey of Brea, CA who pulled in a 4lb 4oz 'bow on a pink Berkley powerworm and Bob Hill of Orange, CA who nailed a 5lb 6oz fish on a Rapala.
