Andy Cates brought his 32 anglers home after a five-day trip aboard the Red Rooster III, an Ono Custom Rods charter.

"Cedros paid off," said Cates, but the albacore are likely to be the biggest, or at least the heaviest, fish."

He was correct, as the certified scales at H&M Landing proved the heftiest fish to be an albacore of 35.8 pounds.

The winning albie was caught by Kyle Sundale of Truckee, on a sardine and a 3/0 Mustad 94150 hook. Kyle used 30-pound Ande line on a Daiwa Saltist reel and a Seeker 6470 Black Steel rod.

Brian Kitahara, 12 years old, is a student at Tuffree Jr. High, where he plays hockey. Brian won second place for a 35-pound yellowtail. Eugene Jew of San Mateo was third, for a 32.9-pound albacore.
