Central Sierras/Highway 4 Fishing Report August 9th, 2007

8-9-2007
Bill Reynolds

The North Fork of the Stanislaus has been slow due to the warm weather. Anglers that have been persistent and willing to work for their fish have done well. This last week one of our customers, Tony, landed a beautiful 22" Brown Trout using a Rapala. Lure casters should try Rapalas, Panther Martin spinners, and Kastmasters. Bait casters should try split-shotting inflated nightcrawlers, Gulp Power Bait, Gulp Eggs, ulp Nightcrawlers, crickets, and floating Power Eggs. Fly fishermen have also had success on the Stanislaus. Flay casters should try woolly buggers, nymphs, mayflies, hoppers, stimulators, and adams.

Lake Alpine has been tough this last week due to high wind and heat. Trollers should try a flasher with a nightcrawler trailer, Apex or Needlefish tipped with a nightcrawler behind a small dodger. Bait casters should try inflated nightcrawlers, crickets, Gulp Power Bait, floating Power Eggs, and Gulp Nightcrawlers on a 25" to 30" leader. Fly casters should try woolly buggers, nymphs, hoppers, and mayflies. Lure casters should try Rapalas, Kastmasters, and Panther Martin spinners.

The fish at Spicer have moved deeper. Trollers should try Apex, Wedding Rings, Glitter Bugs or Needlefish tipped with a nightcrawler behind a small dodger, or a flasher/nightcrawler combo. Try approximately 60' deep to start your trolling.

White Pines still has plenty of fish to be caught. Try using floating Power Eggs or Gulp Power Bait with a 25" to 30" leader. Be there early in the morning or late in the evening as the lake warms up during the day making the fishing tough.

Mosquito Lake is still producing limits of fish. Bait casters should try crickets, nightcrawlers, floating Power Eggs, and the new Gulp Power Bait on a 25" to 30" leader. Lure casters should try Panther Martin spinners and Rapalas. Fly fishermen should try woolly buggers, nymphs, hoppers, mosquitoes, mayflies and adams.

Highland Lake is still producing some beautiful Brook Trout. Fly casters should try hoppers, woolly buggers, mayflies, adams, mosquitoes, and nymphs. Lure casters should try Panther Martin and Rooster Tail spinners. Bait casters should try nightcrawlers, and crickets on a 25" to 30" leader.
