Skipper Brian Kiyohara brought home American Angler after a five-day to Point Loma Sportfishing August 8.

"Cedros has been steady for awhile now," said Kiyohara. "The albacore are there, but it's just been really frustrating trying to get them to bite."

Doug Taylor, of Oak Park, took first place with a husky 45.8-pound yellowtail. Doug used a 4/0 Mutu hook on 40-pound Izorline, an Avet JX63 reel on a new Super Seeker rod. Doug posed with his 14-year old son Chris, who caught a 35-pound yellowtail himself.

Mike Peddicord was second place for a 41-pound yellowtail he caught with a dropper loop rig set up to fish for halibut.

"I got up around 4am to go to the restroom," said Peddicord, "and I saw Ritchie (Mandel) fishin' in the corner by himself. We were anchored at Cedros, in about 80-feet of water. I went to go ask him how it was going, and within 30 seconds, he hooked up and was pinned to rail! We fought that fish for a while before he went under the boat and snapped the line.

"So of course, I get my rig out, drop a sardine, and after about 15 minutes, I'm hit and pinned to the rail myself! After awhile, I just dropped it into low gear and this yellowtail was on the boat in no time. What a great fish!"

Dan Spiegel rounded out the jackpot with his 36-pound albacore.
